Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Tampa Bay Reporter Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit tampabayreporter.com (the “Site”), how we use it and the choices you have. By using the Site you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Information you give us. You can read the Site without creating an account or telling us who you are. We only receive personal information when you choose to send it:

  • Newsletter. If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address.
  • Messages. If you email us (for example with a news tip, a correction, a press release or an advertising inquiry), we receive your name, email address and anything else you include in the message.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the date and time of the visit. This information is used to keep the Site running and secure, and we do not use it to identify you.

The Site has no comment section and no reader accounts. We do not currently use advertising networks or analytics services that track you across websites. For details on cookies and similar technologies, see our Cookie Policy.

How we use your information

  • To send the newsletter you signed up for.
  • To reply to your messages and follow up on tips, corrections and inquiries.
  • To operate, maintain and protect the Site, including preventing abuse.
  • To comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of companies that process information on our behalf and only to provide their service to us:

  • GoDaddy hosts the Site and our email.
  • MailerLite stores newsletter subscribers and sends the newsletter.
  • Gravatar (Automattic) serves our writers’ profile photos, so your browser contacts Gravatar’s servers when it loads a story.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the publication.

The newsletter

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. Click it at any time and you will stop receiving it. You can also email us and ask to be removed. We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

Links, embedded content and advertising

Stories and advertisements may link to other websites, and some stories may include embedded content (such as videos or social media posts). Those sites and services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it by writing to the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live (for example in certain U.S. states or in the European Union), you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor requests as those laws require.

Children

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security and storage

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, but no website or email service is completely secure. Our service providers may store information in the United States or in other countries.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or services. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
